Since the time a film on India’s first cricket world cup win has been announced, it has gotten almost everyone excited. As we all know, cricket is a religion in India, so there could be nothing better than reliving those happy moments on the big screen. The film is titled ‘83‘ and is going to be directed by Kabir Khan. We all know that Ranveer Singh has been cast to play Kapil Dev but that’s the only announcement that has been made. People have been eagerly waiting for some more news around the film and here, we have an update for you!

According to a report in Mumbai Mirror, Nawazuddin Siddiqui has been approached to play Ranveer’s coach in ’83’. Commenting on Nawaz’s casting, Kabir Khan didn’t confirm anything and said, “It’s too early to comment so I won’t confirm or deny anything.” We will have to wait till an official announcement is made but it would be great to see Ranveer and Nawaz on screen together.

In an interview with PTI, Kabir had said, “As a young schoolboy, when I watched India win the 1983 Cricket World Cup I had no idea that from that day onwards Cricket in India will change forever. As a filmmaker, for me, the journey to that win, filled with raw energy and sheer passion of that young Indian team, is probably one of the most exciting stories I have worked on.

Talking about Ranveer playing Kapil Dev, the then Indian cricket team captain in the film, he said, “And it’s great to have Ranveer come on board to play Kapil Dev, as honestly, I could see no one else for the role, ever since I started finalising the script.”

’83’ is going to be produced by Phantom Films, Reliance Entertainment and Kabir Khan Films and will be releasing on August 30, 2019. In an interview with Rediff.com, Anurag Kashyap (of Phantom Films) had also spoken about the film saying, “There is a lot of excitement! Kabir (Khan, director) is super excited and trying to create it. Every day is going to be exciting. We found our (Sunil) Gavaskar, Roger Binny, Madan Lal, Mohinder Amarnath..”
