The Tanushree Dutta and Nana Patekar controversy has given rise to the #MeToo movement in India. Slowly and steadily, skeletons are tumbling out of the closet and it seems like the movement is not going to fizz out anytime soon.

Several Bollywood stars are coming forward to support the movement and the latest to join the bandwagon is none other than Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. At a recent event, the actress was asked to comment on the #MeToo movement, and she said, “I have always spoken out, I spoke in the past, I am speaking now, and I will continue to speak.”

Aishwarya also said that there is no right or wrong time to share one’s ordeal. “When it comes to helping women find their voice, find the strength, feel confident about sharing their stories, it’s not about the current time. This has been going on since a lot of time and I am glad it has found a certain momentum today,” said the actress at the event.

The ‘Fanney Khan’ actress feels that the movement is gaining momentum thanks to social media as everyone who wants to share their story can easily do so. Aishwarya, however, refrained from commenting on any particular case that has surfaced now. “The #MeToo movement has been the need of the hour since time immemorial and I hope together we keep the momentum going. At the same time, if a case gets sub judice, we have to respect the law of the land,” she said.

Back in 2002, Aishwarya had opened up on the physical and mental abuse she had faced at the hands of her then boyfriend Salman Khan.  They reportedly fell in love on the sets of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s  ‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’. However, Aishwarya later broke up with Salman owing to his abusive behaviour.
