The heartbreak anthem Channa Mereya has become one of the most loved songs from Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. However, did you know that the song was not originally composed for the Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan starrer? Music composer Pritam had once revealed that the popular track was initially created for Salman Khan’s Bajrangi Bhaijaan but did not make it to the film
Channa Mereya Was First Created For Bajrangi Bhaijaan
Pritam had shared the interesting story behind the creation of ‘Channa Mereya’. The composer revealed that he had originally composed the song for an emotional situation in Bajrangi Bhaijaan.
However, the track was eventually rejected and later found its place in Karan Johar’s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil.
Speaking about the song, Pritam said, “For the same situation of ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’, I made Channa Mereya. It got bounced from ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’, and it went to ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’. Mukhra was the same, but the lyrics were different.
Interestingly, while the basic melody remained the same, the lyrics were changed to suit the emotional world of Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. The song eventually became a defining moment in the film, capturing the pain of unrequited love and heartbreak.
Channa Mereya Became A Heartbreak Anthem
Released in 2016, Channa Mereya features Ranbir Kapoor’s character, Ayan, expressing his emotions during Alizeh’s wedding. Arijit Singh’s soulful vocals, combined with Pritam’s composition and Amitabh Bhattacharya’s lyrics, helped turn the track into a fan favourite.
Over the years, the song has continued to connect with listeners and has earned a loyal following across streaming platforms. Its emotional lyrics and memorable melody have made it a go-to song for people experiencing heartbreak.
