Alia Bhatt is currently going through a purple patch and her success rate at the box-office is truly astonishing. India’s Lok Sabha elections are underway and on April 11, we had the first phase of polling getting over. Now, Alia would not be able to cast her vote during general elections.

Alia Bhatt is a British citizen and doesn’t hold an Indian passport, which restricts her from casting her vote. The ‘Raazi’ actress and her ‘Kalank’ co-actors Varun Dhawan, Aditya Roy Kapur, and Sonakshi Sinha were asked in a recent India Today interview how they can help impact the elections. “By voting,” said Varun, Aditya and Sonakshi. But when Alia was asked the question separately, she said, “I can’t vote.” When asked for a reason, she said, “Passport.”

During 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Alia Bhatt in an interview with Hindustan Times had said, “Unfortunately, I can’t vote because I have a British passport. I am past the date (to get the official documents for voting) this time around, but I will try and get my voting card the next time (elections) once I get my dual citizenship.”

For the record, India doesn’t allow dual citizenship to its voters. Meanwhile, apart from ‘Kalank’, Alia is working on ‘Brahmastra’ and has also signed ‘RRR’ and ‘Inshallah’.
