Rani Mukerji returned to the big screens this year with a heartbreaking true story in Mrs Chatterjee Vs Norway. The actress portrayed the struggles of a mother trying to fight a whole nation for her children. Her nuances and experience spoke volumes in the film, leaving not a single dry eye in the theatres.
Shraddha Kapoor in Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar
After a long gap, Shraddha Kapoor returned to the 70 mm opposite Ranbir Kapoor in Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar. The romcom emerged a commercial success. Even the audience agreed to have been missing Shraddha’s eclectic presence on screen all this while. Shraddha’s Tinny personified today’s women and the charm and naughtiness she brought to the role made it all the more special.
Yami Gautam in OMG 2
Yami Gautam gave two impressive performances on OTT in the first quarter of 2023 with Lost and Chor Nikal Ke Bhaga. In August, she arrived on the big screen as a headstrong lawyer in OMG 2. Her strong portrayal took over the audience’s hearts yet again. Yami proved that no matter the medium, she knows how to keep her audiences hooked.
Adah Sharma in The Kerala Story
Adah Sharma had a complete career redefining moment with The Kerala Story this year. The film came as a surprise and emerged a blockbuster at the box office. Showing the journey of a simple girl from Kerala who is pushed into terrorism and conversion, Adah brought a vulnerability to her role which was loved by the audiences.
Sara Ali Khan in Zara Hatke Zara Bachke
Before this year, Sara Ali Khan last appeared on the big screen in Love Aaj Kal. The film wasn’t received well but with Zara Hatke Zara Bachke, the actress shut down all the naysayers. Playing Saumya, a small town girl with big dreams to own a house, Sara proved her potential. Even the film emerged a success, with people loving her chemistry with Vicky Kaushal.
Kiara Advani in SatyaPrem Ki Katha
Not much was known about SatyaPrem Ki Katha’s plot before the film released. But as soon as it arrived in theatres, people termed it as Kiara Advani’s film. The actress brought out the vulnerability and trauma of Katha, a victim of date rape, with utmost nuance. Her sensitivity and sensibility towards the portrayal prove why she is one of the best actresses we have in the industry today.
Alia Bhatt in Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani
Alia Bhatt is undoubtedly one of the best Bollywood actresses in this generation and she proved it yet again in 2023. After leading some intense dramas, the actress returned to the romantic genre with Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. Playing the sassy, headstrong and independent Rani, Alia showed what a modern Indian woman is like. Yet again, she proved that there is nothing out there that she can’t do with utmost perfection.
Nayanthara in Jawan
With just her first stint in Hindi films, Nayanthara proved why she is one of the biggest superstars down South. The actress made her dream debut in Hindi with Shah Rukh Khan in Jawan and delivered a strong performance. Her chemistry with SRK was laudworthy and she just brought the experience and excellence she has gathered through the years, in her role of a cop.
Deepika Padukone in Jawan
Even with a brief appearance in Jawan, Deepika Padukone struck out as one of the best performers in the film. The impact she left in just a small role echoed throughout Jawan. Along with it, the audience also got to see her electrifying chemistry with SRK yet again. The two started the year with a bang in Pathaan, and getting a reunion so soon was just doubly special.
Katrina Kaif in Tiger 3
Katrina Kaif returned as Zoya in Tiger 3 this Diwali and proved why is she one of the best actors in the action genre. Not just amongst the females, but overall, Katrina’s action prowess triumphs over many. Seeing her return as Zoya was a treat to the fans and her chemistry with Salman Khan was as special as ever.
Rashmika Mandanna in Animal
Rashmika Mandanna stood head-to-head with Ranbir Kapoor’s Ranvijay in Animal and the audience loved her strength as Geetanjali. The film has emerged one of the biggest blockbusters of the year and Rashmika is also getting a lot of love. While she had the softness of Geetanjali imbibed to the T, she also showed her strength as effectively.
Triptii Dimri in Animal
After Bulbull and Qala, there was no doubting the acting capabilities of Triptii Dimri. But with Animal, she showed that even with a limited screen time, she can leave a long lasting impact. Triptii has already become the new National crush and her popularity post playing Zoya is just skyrocketing. It speaks volumes of how she has connected with the audiences.
