Veteran actor Sulochana Latkar passed away at the age of 94. The actor has worked on over 250 films in Hindi and in Marathi. She often played the onscreen mother to many stars including Dharmendra, Rajesh Khanna, Rishi Kapoor, Amitabh Bachchan, Vinod Khanna, Rajendra Kumar, Sanjeev Kumar, Nutan, Asha Parekh, Waheeda Rehman, Zeenat Aman, Tanuja, etc. On Sunday, she breathed her last in a private hospital. With this sad demise, quite a few Bollywood celebs mourned her demise virtually.

Amitabh Bachchan penned a blog for Sulochana

Amitabh Bachchan who has played the role of her son onscreen penned a heartfelt note for Sulochana ji on his blog. He wrote, “We have lost another great of our Cinema World – Sulochana ji. The gentle, generous, caring Mother that played in several films with me. She had been ailing for some time and this afternoon she left for her heavenly abode. I had been monitoring here condition with her family but finally the sad news! We can only pray in such unforgiving circumstances.”

The Piku actor further added, “There was work today as well and the timed schedule allowed me to be back for the GOJ .. happily .. but the news of Sulochana ji has taken away all the cheering and joy of the well wishers at Jalsa. I am hesitant to write anymore .. so do excuse. More another DAY.”

Big B even had a conversation with ETimes, remembering his on-screen mother and said, “After Nirupa ji, she played my mother in the largest number of films. Sulochana ji was indeed a mother-figure to both the Hindi and Marathi film industry. I still remember the beautiful handwritten letter she had sent me on my 75th birthday. It was one of the most cherished gifts I’ve ever received.

Bollywood celebs condolence messages:

Madhuri Dixit took to Twitter and wrote, “Sulochana Tai was one of the most loved and graceful actresses cinema has seen. My favourite film of hers will always be Sangate Aika. Her performance in every film was memorable. I will miss our conversations may you rest in peace. Your contribution to Indian cinema will always be remembered (sic).”

Whereas Riteish Deshmukh tweeted in Hindi, “The news of the death of Sulochana Didi is very sad. A heartfelt tribute to this great actress who ruled the hearts of audiences in Marathi and Hindi cinema.”
