Priyanshu Thakur, popularly known as Babu Chhetri, who featured alongside Amitabh Bachchan in the film Jhund, was tragically murdered in Nagpur at the age of 21. The incident occurred early Wednesday morning and has shocked fans and colleagues alike. Thakur’s accused, Dhruv Lal Bahadur Sahu, aged 20, was reportedly intoxicated during the altercation and has been detained by police.

Thakur, who gained recognition for his role in the 2022 movie, was involved in a fatal incident following a night of drinking. According to police reports, the two friends often consumed alcohol together. On Tuesday night, they travelled to an abandoned house in the Jaripatka area for a drinking session. An argument erupted during this time, during which Thakur allegedly threatened Sahu and later fell asleep.

Fearing for his safety, Sahu reportedly tied Thakur with wires and attacked him with a sharp weapon, causing severe injuries. Local residents found Thakur in a distressed state, partially unclothed, and he was rushed to Mayo Hospital, where he succumbed during treatment. Around 3 a.m. on Wednesday, local residents discovered Thakur with stab wounds and a head injury, prompting them to notify the police. A blood-stained stone was also recovered from the scene. Priyanshu’s sister, Shilpa, filed a complaint identifying Sahu as the suspect.

Officials’ Statement

An official police statement confirmed, “After midnight on Tuesday, Sahu and Chhetri travelled by Sahu’s motorcycle to an abandoned house in the Jaripatka area for a drinking session. This occurred a few hours before Chhetri was found injured early Wednesday morning.” They further added, “Fearing harm, Sahu allegedly tied Chhetri with wires and attacked him with a sharp weapon.”
