Over the last several days, celebrated music composer AR Rahman has been in the headlines owing to his a statement he made with regards to not getting much work in Bollywood. For those who don’t know, Rehman – during a recent interview, alleged that he wasn’t getting work due to his religion. His actual words were – “It might be a communal thing also… but it is not in my face. It comes to me as Chinese whispers.”

While the ‘Roja’ composer clarified his stance, his ‘communal’ remark, has earned his severe backlash. The latest and most pointed slamming has come his way from legendary Indian singer, Anup Jalota. Jalato – in a recent video, openly criticised Rahman and made a controversial suggestion that has sparked sharp reactions online. Read on to know what he said.

Anup Jalota Trolls AR Rahman With Advice On How To Get More Work

A video of Anup Jalota reacting to AR Rahman’s comments has surfaced on social media and it shiows the singer making it clear that he does not agree with Rahman’s views. As quoted in HT, Jalota goes on to reference the composer’s religious identity and ask him to re-convert. In the video, Anup is heard saying, “Music director AR Rahman pehle Hindu the. Uske baad unhone Islam dharm apna liya aur bahut kaam kiya, bahut naam kamaya, logon ke dilon mein bahut achchi jagah banayi. Lekin agar unhein is baat ka vishwas hai ki hamare desh mein Muslim hone ki wajah se unko filmein nahi mil rahi hain music dene ke liye, toh phir woh dobara Hindu ho jaayein.”

He further adds, “Toh unko yeh vishwas hona chahiye ki Hindu hone ke baad, convert ho jaane ke baad, unko phir se filmein milna shuru ho jaayengi. Yahi toh unka matlab hai. Toh mera salah hai ki woh Hindu ho jaayein aur phir try karein ki unko dobara filmein milti hain ya nahi.”

Rahman’s ‘Communal’ Remark

During a recent interaction with BBC Asian Network, AR Rahman spoke about his absence from the Hindi film industry. Revealing the reason, he said, “Maybe in the past eight years, because a power shift has happened and people who are not creative have the power now.” The Oscar winning composer also added, “It might be a communal thing also, but it is not in my face. It comes to me as Chinese whispers that they booked you, but the music company went ahead and hired their five composers. I said, ‘Oh, that’s great, rest for me, I can chill out with my family.”

On the work front, the Oscar-winning composer is currently working on Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana. For this, he will be collaborating with Grammy-winning composer Hans Zimmer. The film, starring Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi, Sunny Deol, and Yash, will release during Diwali 2026.
