Akshay Kumar's Bhooth Bangla Gets U_A Certificate, Runtime Reduced By 10 Mins

Akshay Kumar’s upcoming horror-comedy Bhooth Bangla, directed by Priyadarshan, has received CBFC certification after significant edits. The film received a U/A 16+ certificate following cuts of approximately 10 minutes. The makers initially submitted the film, which was approved on April 2 after implementing the CBFC’s suggested changes, and then voluntarily returned to make additional cuts.

The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) raised several concerns before approving. The Examining Committee flagged multiple issues, including the use of obscene language—one word at 26 minutes and another around an hour into the film—both of which were ordered to be replaced. An obscene word in the subtitles towards the end was also instructed to be removed.

In addition to language concerns, the CBFC objected to a derogatory reference to women in the first half of the film, asking the makers to replace it with a more appropriate scene. The board also mandated the addition of clear disclaimers for all religious and superstitious references throughout the film. After making these required modifications, the film received its certification on April 2, paving the way for its release scheduled for April 17, 2026.

About Runtime, CBFC Cuts

Following the certification, the makers voluntarily returned to the CBFC with a fresh set of cuts. Accepted on April 11, these additional edits involved trimming 63 scenes, most of which were small. The most significant was the complete removal of a scene in the song “O Sundari,” which lasted 72 seconds. Another 27 seconds were cut from the song “O Re O Sawariya.”

In total, these additional cuts reduced the film’s runtime by 10 minutes and 5 seconds, bringing the final duration of Bhooth Bangla to 164 minutes and 52 seconds—approximately 2 hours, 44 minutes, and 52 seconds.
