Celina Jaitly Remains Positive As Delhi HC Orders Lawyer For Her Brother's Detention Case

Celina Jaitly recently responded to the Delhi High Court’s order to appoint a lawyer for her brother, Major (retd) Vikrant Jaitly, who has been detained in the UAE. She described the ongoing 18-month-long battle and expressed hope for her brother’s soon release. Welcoming the court’s decision to allow the appointment of a UAE-based legal firm, Celina called it a step towards restoring her brother’s dignity and advancing their long-standing legal efforts.

In an interview with ANI, Celina Jaitly shared that the Delhi High Court’s order has enabled advocates from Almarri Partners in the UAE to represent Major Vikrant Jaitly. She highlighted how this has renewed hope for her family after months of uncertainty. “This has been an 18-month-long struggle for us. Today, after all this time, my brother—our country’s soldier—has finally had his dignity restored. The court has ordered Almarri Partners and advocates in the UAE to represent Major Vikrant Kumar Jaitly… We want to bring him back, and I believe things will now move quickly and positively,” she said.

Celina’s Lawyer Describes The Order As Positive

Her lawyer, advocate Raghav Kacker, described the order as “very positive” and crucial for Major Jaitly’s defence. He explained that the Delhi High Court directed the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to appoint a lawyer identified by the family in Dubai. The appointment would allow the legal team to obtain a power of attorney from Major Jaitly and begin proper legal proceedings.

“We received a very good order from the Delhi High Court. The court has directed the MEA to appoint a lawyer we identified in Dubai, who has agreed to represent Vikrant. This is vital because the appointment letter will enable us to get a power of attorney from Vikrant and prepare a proper defense. Considering the recent developments between India and the UAE, we are hopeful for a swift release,” Kacker stated.

Delhi High Court’s Order

Earlier on Tuesday, the Delhi High Court instructed the MEA to issue an order to the law firm Al Maree Partners to represent Major (retd.) Vikrant Jaitly in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. The firm has agreed to handle the case free of charge. Justice Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav issued this directive on a petition filed by actress Celina Jaitly. The court also stated that if there are any issues with issuing the order, they should be mentioned in an affidavit.

The next hearing is scheduled for February 10. Vikrant Jaitly has been detained in the UAE for 18 months. The law firm’s name was suggested by Celina’s counsel, Raghav Kacker, with support from advocates Madhav Agrawal and Suradhish Vats. It was also noted that the firm is willing to represent Vikrant pro bono. They have independently gathered details about his case.

However, the legal submissions faced opposition from the MEA’s counsel. It was argued that the firm’s name appears on a list of suggested legal firms provided by Vikrant Jaitly. And, Vikrant had told embassy officials that his wife, Charu Jaitly, would decide whether to engage a legal firm. Celina’s counsel opposed this, asserting that the respondents are suppressing facts from email communications. She mentions that Vikrant does not wish to communicate with his wife, as stated by the actress’s legal team.
