Director Neeraj Yadav’s Ajay Devgn-starrer Chauhaan has sparked controversy over its teaser dialogues and portrayal of Rajput history. Shortly after the makers announced the film with an action-packed teaser, the movie faced criticism from the Kshatriya Parishad, which condemned what it called the “weaponisation of Rajput history and appropriation of Rajput identities.” The organization argued that such attempts serve “electoral or ideological purposes.”
Expressing strong disapproval of the makers’ efforts to “appropriate” the Chauhan clan name for “contemporary communal politics,” the Kshatriya Parishad stated, “Chauhans are a historic Rajput (Kshatriya) lineage whose legacy belongs to history, not to partisan campaigns or manufactured media controversies.”
Kshatriya Parishad Slams Ajay Devgn-Led Chauhaan Teaser
In a social media statement, the organisation called it “deeply unfortunate” that the Rajput identity was once again “being dragged into a political narrative,” which, they noted, “Rajputs neither initiated nor sought.” They added, “At a time when Rajput voices remain underrepresented in mainstream media and public discourse, invoking a Rajput clan name merely to provoke outrage, inflame caste and communal sentiments, or generate political spectacle is both irresponsible and disrespectful.”
We strongly condemn the attempt by Neeraj Yadav and Ajay Devgn's upcoming film Chauhaan to appropriate the Chauhan clan name for contemporary communal politics.

The Parishad emphasised that such representations reveal an “ignorance of Indian history,” stating that the Indian subcontinent’s past “cannot be reduced to simplistic communal binaries.” They provided examples of historical alliances between Afghans and Rajputs, such as Mahmud Lodi fighting under Maharana Sanga at the Battle of Khanwa, Hakim Khan Sur commanding forces for Maharana Pratap at Haldighati, and Maharaja Vikramaditya Tomar fighting alongside the Lodi forces at the First Battle of Panipat. They noted, “These episodes illustrate that medieval political alliances were shaped by statecraft, loyalty, and military strategy — not by the communal narratives being imposed today.”
The organisation concluded by rejecting any attempt to “weaponise Rajput history or appropriate Rajput identities for electoral or ideological purposes,” emphasising that “historical memory must not become a tool for communal mobilisation.” They urged political actors, filmmakers, and media outlets to handle India’s past responsibly, respecting its complexity rather than exploiting Rajput heritage for divisive politics.
About The Controversy
The controversy is a continuation of the criticism that greeted Chauhaan’s teaser shortly after its release, including dialogue and insinuations many found problematic. While the promotional video faced backlash over its depiction of the Kashmir conflict, critics were particularly incensed by a dialogue claiming pellet guns cause only “minimal damage.” Actress Swara Bhasker and others condemned the line for being insensitive.
The teaser also drew widespread criticism for Ajay Devgn’s voiceover stating, “Tell the Pathans, Chauhaan is coming,” which many argued vilified Muslims and portrayed the Rajput character as coming to “give answers.” Swara Bhasker responded on social media, condemning the glorification of pellet guns, calling them “a gross human rights violation,” and criticising the depiction of Kashmiris as “Pathaans,” urging audiences to “research” and referencing Goebbels’ propaganda techniques. She captioned her post, “The Vivek Agnihotri-fication of Bollywood.”
Produced by Jyoti Deshpande, Aanand L Rai, and Himanshu Sharma under Jio Studios and Colour Yellow Productions, Chauhaan is scheduled for release on October 1, 2027.
