Part of Bollywood actors Ajay Devgn and Kajol’s bungalow in Juhu, Mumbai, has been demolished by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). The action comes days after the civic body issued a stop-work notice over alleged unauthorised construction at the property.
According to a report by NDTV, the bungalow measures 7,802 square feet and is located in Kapole Co-operative Housing Society. The dispute reportedly began after plans to use the property for a salon and spa raised concerns among residents.
Why Was Ajay Devgn’s Bungalow Demolished?
The BMC reportedly found that certain construction and alteration work had been carried out without the required permissions. This included changes to internal walls, partitions, windows and other parts of the property.
According to a report by Hindustan Times, the civic body issued a stop-work notice on September 10 under Section 354A of the Mumbai Municipal Corporation Act. The notice directed the owners to stop construction immediately and submit the necessary documents for the proposed salon and spa.
However, the BMC alleged that work continued despite the notice. The subsequent demolition action followed the dispute over the property’s construction and proposed commercial use.
Why Did the Housing Society Object?
The Kapole Co-operative Housing Society reportedly raised objections to the property being leased for commercial purposes. Residents expressed concerns about increased customer movement, parking problems, security and noise.
The society’s narrow internal roads were also a concern, as the proposed salon and spa could bring additional traffic into the residential area.
Local corporator Sudha Singh reportedly said that the BMC’s Building and Factory Department had found that the necessary permission for commercial use had not been provided. The civic body subsequently sought relevant documents from the property owners. The Devgn family was reportedly given four weeks to respond to the notice.
