Daboo Malik Believes He ‘Failed As Parent’ For Making 15-Year-Old Amaal Malik Earn For The Family: “Uss Chotte Bache Ko Kaisa Laga Hoga?”

Daboo Malik recently opened up about his son Amaal Malik’s decision to distance himself from the family, while also acknowledging his shortcomings as a father. Earlier this year, Amaal took to his Instagram handle to share a post announcing his decision to part ways with his family. Although he quickly deleted the post, the message had already sparked conversations. Since then, Amaal remained silent, while Daboo often addressed the situation publicly.

Daboo Malik Clarifies Distance With Son Amaal Malik

In a recent interview with Faridoon Shahryar, Daboo Malik clarified that the statement Amaal made was intended for someone else, emphasising that “Amaal’s love for his dad is unfathomable.” He explained, “The statement was meant for a certain family member, but it was seen as against the family. Amaal’s words opened our eyes, and we realised the mistakes we had made over the years. No matter what, Jyoti and I have to take responsibility because we were at fault.”

Daboo reflected, “His statements opened our eyes. We realised the mistakes we had committed. That’s when our relationship solidified. Sometimes, parents can be wrong. You need a medium to express what’s going on when things go wrong. And things were going wrong. Jyoti and I have to accept the blame — we were wrong. Maa baap se galti hosakti hai.”

Daboo Admits He And Jyoti Failed As Parents

He admitted that he and his wife had failed as parents. Going further, Daboo discussed how people often overlook how their actions can impact their children.“The next 15 days after that, I was in bed with him continuously after 4 am,” Daboo recalled. “Forget just staying in the house, I was lying in bed with him because I needed to understand what had happened. I was not a mature father then. I was going through my own problems. And, I failed as a father, and Jyoti failed as a mother.”

Daboo also mentioned that a major issue was that Amaal had become the ‘parent’ of the household, both for his family and for his elder brother, Armaan. He expressed regret that, in their desire to see someone in the family succeed as a singer to ease financial burdens, they unintentionally ignored Armaan, who also harboured dreams of becoming a star.

Daboo Reveals He Asked Amaal To Work At 15 Years Due To Debt

He recounted a poignant moment when Amaal was only 15 years old. Daboo recalled, “There was a time I had a huge, steep fall. Amaal, just 15 then, saw me, and I remember him hugging me, asking me to save the family. I told him, ‘Something similar is happening to me, just like what happened to my father, you’ll have to save us.’” He added, “That innocent 15-year-old saw his father coming to him, hugging him, and saying, ‘Dad, I’ll earn.’ Armaan was too young to fully understand the gravity of it all.”

Throughout various interviews, Daboo Malik has taken responsibility for his mistakes and the pain they might have caused Amaal, including revealing that he once asked his 15-year-old son to earn money to support the family.
