The 98th Academy Awards took place in Los Angeles on Sunday night, celebrating the finest talents from Hollywood’s 2025 slate. The evening featured an extended In Memoriam segment, honouring the actors, filmmakers, and technicians who passed away over the past year. While icons like Robert Redford and Rob Reiner’s contributions were recognised and celebrated, Indian fans were disappointed that Bollywood legend Dharmendra was not even mentioned. The In Memoriam segment at the 2026 Oscars paid tribute to several film industry legends who died last year, but Dharmendra’s name was notably absent.
Dharmendra Left Out Of Oscars 2026 In Memoriam Segment
This year’s In Memoriam segment was the longest in the history of the awards show. Organisers had promised a ‘different’ approach, moving beyond just a simple video montage. This included two special parts within the segment, where colleagues paid tribute to Rob Reiner and Robert Redford.

Billy Crystal honoured Reiner, recalling his work on When Harry Met Sally. Barbra Streisand, who starred opposite Redford in The Way We Were, called him a “brilliant, subtle actor” and an “intellectual cowboy”. Rachel McAdams also paid homage to fellow Canadian Diane Keaton.
Dharmendra Missing From In Memoriam
In recent years, the Oscars have aimed to showcase a more international scope, especially through the In Memoriam segments. From India, actors like Irrfan Khan and Rishi Kapoor have been remembered in recent years. However, the 2026 segment omitted Bollywood legend Dharmendra, who passed away in November 2025 at age 89.
The Oscars showed a list of people who passed away last year, yet didn’t mention Dharmendra—a legendary Indian actor who gave his entire life to cinema. Why so much hype when our icons get no recognition? After all, it’s mainly a Hollywood show, not truly international.#Oscars

While Dharmendra was snubbed from the special tribute video, he did get a mention on the website of The Academy.
