Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has confirmed that he will begin shooting for Sarkar 4 next month. Announcing the next instalment of his acclaimed political crime franchise, Varma revealed that the film is set to go on floors soon, marking the much-anticipated return of one of his most celebrated series. Ram Gopal Varma Confirms Shooting For Sarkar 4 Next Month

At the opening day of the Red Lorry Film Festival, Ram Gopal Varma revealed that production on the sequel is set to begin shortly. Responding to a question during the session, he answered, “I am making Sarkar 4 and will start shooting next month.”

The filmmaker also touched on another upcoming project, The Syndicate, joking that it would wash away all his sins.

A Look At The Sarkar Film Saga

Sarkar, released in 2005, starred Amitabh Bachchan as Subhash Nagre, a powerful political figure inspired by real-life power dynamics. The film further involves Abhishek Bachchan playing his on-screen son. The film earned critical acclaim as a gripping political drama.

The franchise continued with Sarkar Raj in 2008, introducing Aishwarya Rai Bachchan as Anita Rajan, followed nearly a decade later by Sarkar 3 in 2017. The third instalment saw Amitabh and Abhishek reprise their roles, joined by Yami Gautam, Manoj Bajpayee, and Amit Sadh in pivotal parts.

Ram Gopal Varma Reflects On His Cult Classic Film ‘Shiva’

Varma attended the Red Lorry Film Festival for a special screening of his cult classic Shiva, where he reflected on the film’s creative influences. He also emphasised on the ways global cinema shaped his signature visual style. The filmmaker, talking about Shiva at the festival, said, “Some of the shots in Shiva were definitely inspired by Steven Spielberg’s distinctive style.” He also reiterated that Steven Spielberg remains his all-time favourite filmmaker.

Varma also mentioned that Shiva drew thematic inspiration from The Way of the Dragon, starring martial arts legend Bruce Lee. He explained that he reimagined the film’s central premise within an entirely new setting while crafting Shiva.

During the discussion, Varma praised filmmaker Aditya Dhar and his upcoming project Dhurandhar 2. The veteran filmmaker called him one of the most promising talents of today’s generation.
