Priyadarshan Defends Dhurandhar 2 Amid Propaganda Row
Veteran filmmaker Priyadarshan has responded to the ‘propaganda’ allegations surrounding Dhurandhar: The Revenge, firmly backing both the film and its director, Aditya Dhar. Despite the film’s strong box office performance, it has faced criticism from a section of viewers who have labelled it agenda-driven. In a conversation with Siddharth Kannan, Priyadarshan rejected these claims, asserting that the film presents facts rather than propaganda.
The filmmaker said, “There’s nothing like propaganda. You are just bringing the truth in front of the people. When the whole of India has accepted it, then why do some people’s opinions matter?” He further added, “India has watched and accepted it. There are no bigger hits. Do you think those people who have watched the film are fools? It’s people’s opinion, leave it with them. Don’t confront it. Forget it. He has achieved.”
Priyadarshan Reflects On Aditya Dhar’s Early Struggles In The Industry
Priyadarshan also reflected on Dhar’s early career struggles, recalling how the filmmaker had once felt disheartened after some of his scripts were used without proper credit. Expressing pride in his journey, he said, “He was very disheartened… When your children and disciples come up in life, that’s the best joy you can ever have.”
The debate around the film recently intensified after remarks by filmmaker Vetrimaaran on ‘hate propaganda’ cinema sparked speculation online, although no direct reference was made to Dhar’s project.
Priyadarshan’s Upcoming Projects
On the professional front, Priyadarshan is gearing up for the release of Bhooth Bangla, a horror-comedy headlined by Akshay Kumar alongside Paresh Rawal, Tabu, Rajpal Yadav, and Wamiqa Gabbi. The film, set for an April 10 release, marks his return to the horror-comedy space, a genre he has previously explored with notable success, raising expectations among audiences.
In addition, he has another ambitious project in the pipeline titled Haiwaan, which brings together Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan. The film is already generating curiosity, given the star power and Priyadarshan’s track record of delivering engaging entertainers across genres.
