Zayed Khan Opens Up On Zarine Khan’s Hindu Funeral Rites

Zayed Khan has addressed the public discussion surrounding his mother Zarine Khan’s funeral, which was conducted as per Hindu rituals despite her being part of a Muslim family. Emphasising that faith is a deeply personal matter, the actor stated that his family identifies as secular. He also mentioned that he does not feel the need to justify his choices.

In a recent interview with Zoom, Zayed grew emotional while recalling his mother’s final wishes. He explained that she had expressed a desire for her ashes to be immersed in a river, a wish the family chose to honour. Addressing the debate around the funeral customs, he underscored that ‘insaaniyat’ remains the highest value in their household, adding that their family embraces diversity not only in belief systems but also in everyday life, including among their staff.

Zayed Khan States His Views On Religion

Sharing about the Khans’ ideologies and beliefs, the Main Hoon Na actor shared, “We as a family find religion to be something very personal to you, and how you want to approach it, and not something which is better and which is worse. These are not things that are good to say. We define ourselves by being a very secular family, and we don’t need to say why.”

Recalling a moment with his mother, he said she once expressed her wish while sitting by a river. He said, “The thought just passed her head, saying that if I ever go, I want my ashes to flow in this river. I want to be free.” He further added, “Whatever your mother’s last wishes, it will be done. It doesn’t matter what other people say. It doesn’t matter how hateful they can be. I don’t blame them, halat aise hai, unfortunately. Unn halaton ko badalne mein waqt lagega.”

Zayed Khan’s Sister Farah Khan Clarifies The Hindu Funeral Rites

Earlier, his sister Farah Khan had also clarified the family’s decision in a public statement following Zarine Khan’s passing. She wrote, “My mother, Zarine Khan, was a very special woman. Her philosophy of life was to ‘Forgive and Forget.’ She was kind-hearted, loved by all her friends and family and cared deeply for one and all. She was the bond that kept our family together. Born a Parsi, married as a Muslim and cremated according to Hindu rites. She epitomised Humanity and is someone whose legacy we hope to live.”
