Ranveer Singh Don 3

Ever since its announcement, Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani’s Don 3 has been in the headlines. While in 2023 it was in the news for the makers casting Ranveer Singh as the titular character, the project has been in the limelight is 2026 falling the actor’s exit. Singh’s exit soon turned into a legal dispute and reached the Indian Motion Picture Producers’ Association (IMPPA) after Farhan and Riteish demanded Rs 45 crore in damages over his last-minute decision to quit the project.

On August 18, the Indian Motion Picture Producers’ Association held a meeting where Ranveer Singh’s legal team allegedly submitted a letter stating that IMPPA should stay out of the Don 3 matter. In the letter, the actor’s legal team also reportedly added that if a decision on the matter came from the association, the actor would take a legal route. Read on to know all about it.

Ranveer Singh Warns IMPPA To Stay Out Of Don 3 Controversy

As per a recent Mid-Day report, this wasn’t the first time that Ranveer Singh’s team requested the Don 3 issue be dismissed – the first was held on August 14. An IMPPA member – on condition of anonymity, told the portal, “Before that meeting, Ranveer Singh’s legal team sent a letter mentioning that he did not have a formal agreement with Excel Entertainment; instead, they had only a Memorandum of Understanding [MoU]. He also submitted a formal defence countering the Rs 45 crore claim. His letter also stated that IMPPA should dismiss the complaint as it did not fall under the body’s jurisdiction and that only the court could settle the matter. “

The insider continued, “After receiving Ranveer’s letter, IMPPA postponed the August 14 meeting. When the actor’s father, Jagjit Singh Bhavnani, showed up, he was told that the meeting had been postponed.” Adding that the second meeting took place on August 18, the member added, “Ranveer’s legal team submitted another letter that stated that Excel Entertainment had no grounds to complain, and if Farhan and Ritesh want, they can take the matter to court. It also said that if IMPPA passed any resolution, then Ranveer would take the legal route. Some people in IMPPA feel that he should face the heat for walking out of a movie at the last minute.”

Talking about the matter, IMPPA president recently shared, “The legal teams of both parties gave their versions at the second meeting. Now IMPPA’s legal team is looking into the matter, after which we’ll decide.”

Don 3 Exit Row

The entire Don 3 controversy began when Ranveer Singh informed Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani that he did not wish to continue with the project, just weeks before the scheduled overseas shoot. Following his exit, Excel Entertainment approached FWICE (Federation of Western India Cine Employees). In May, FWICE issued a non-cooperation directive against Ranveer. However, they later withdrawn the decision after discussions involving FWICE, IMPPA, the Producers Guild of India, and CINTAA.

Excel demanded Rs 45 crore to cover losses caused over finding locations abroad, arranging the crew, training, costumes, travel and set.
