Farhan Akhtar Takes A Subtle Dig At Ranveer Singh Amid Don 3 Row; Says, “Seems To Be A Pattern”

While Farhan and Ranveer remain at odds over the matter, Farhan, in a recent interaction, appeared to take a subtle dig at Ranveer, describing his exit as “seems to be a pattern.”

During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter India on the occasion of 25 years of his directorial debut Dil Chahta Hai, Farhan discussed the film’s lead actor Saif Ali Khan and how he wanted to quit the project just days before filming was to begin. Farhan shared that before filming started, Saif faced scheduling conflicts because the timetable of another film he was to do shifted. Since Saif was in a difficult spot, he decided to leave Farhan’s film despite efforts to persuade him to stay. The director said, “For me, it was just like my head was destroyed because it was… When we met him, when we got into it, there was nobody else who could’ve played that part. It was just impossible. It was a true heartbreak.”

While discussing Saif’s exit, Farhan recalled Ranveer’s departure from Don 3 just days before shooting was scheduled to begin. Without naming him, Farhan took a playful jab, saying, “It was a month away from filming, which seems to be a pattern nowadays.”

The interviewer burst out laughing at this clear reference to Ranveer. Farhan responded, “But, not just with me…things like this happen too.”

For those unaware, Ranveer chose to walk away from Don 3 just days before filming was to start. Several reports suggested that Ranveer blamed Farhan for approaching Hrithik Roshan for the role behind his back, as his career was struggling. However, after his major hit Dhurandhar last December, Farhan decided to keep Ranveer in the film. Farhan denied such claims. Ranveer reportedly offered to return the signing amount. But the producers demanded Rs 45 crore to cover pre-production losses, according to reports.

Later, Farhan contacted the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) regarding the issue. The film union initially announced a non-cooperation stance against Ranveer, which was later withdrawn. They clarified that Ranveer was not banned. The actor reportedly issued a legal notice to the union after their directive. Ranveer has largely remained silent, communicating through his spokesperson.

The controversy surrounding Don 3 continues to attract attention, especially after casting and production plans changed. Farhan’s recent comments have added another layer to the ongoing debate, with his reference to a “pattern” widely seen as a playful dig at Ranveer’s decision to exit the project.
