Ekta Kapoor Planning A Naagin Film? Filmmaker Announces ‘Iconic Franchise’ To Move Beyond TV After 11 Years

Ekta Kapoor’s Balaji Telefilms has given the audience some iconic shows such as Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii, Kasautii Zindagii Kay, Kasamh Se, Bade Achhe Lagte Hain, Pavitra Rishta, Kumkum Bhagya, Kundali Bhagya and Yeh Hai Mohabbatein, amongst others. While most of their productions have been family dramas aka saas bahu sagas, their supernatural fiction show, Naagin, is also immensely loved.

The franchise – begin in 2015, recently wrapped its 7th season. On the occasion of Nag Panchami and Shravan Somvar, Ekta took to social media and announced that she plans on taking the iconic franchise beyond TV. Read on to know all she shared.

Yesterday, Ekta Kapoor took to Instagram and shared a video looking back at the different actresses who played the mystical shape shifting snake in her franchise over the years. The video – which offered a glimpse of the show’s evolution, also teased fans about what could be next. The filmmaker captioned her post, “Something exciting is coming! #WaitForIt Happy Nag Panchami!”

Ekta further wrote, “For 11 years, Naagin has ruled the small screen. Now Balaji Telefims Ltd is ready to take the iconic franchise beyond TV.” While this announcement is sure to get fans excited, details about the film are still being kept under wraps.

As fans of the franchise rejoice in learning that Ekta Kapoor’s Naagin franchise is set to get a movie, the big question is who will play the new ichadhari naagin. While Ekta has not revealed who will headline the project, speculation around the lead role is already building.

In other news, in 2020, an array of naagin films were announced, including a trilogy helmed by Vishal Furia and produced by Nikhil Dwivedi. This franchise was to star Shraddha Kapoor in the lead role. However, there has been no update regarding the project going on floors.

Ekta Kapoor’s Naagin franchise began in 2015 when Mouni Roy played the mystical shape shifting snake (ichadhari naag) Shivanya in Naagin. After playing the lead in the show’s season 2 as well, Surbhi Jyoti played the ichadhari followed by Nia Sharma, Surbhi Chandna, Tejasswi Prakash and finally Priyanka Chahar Choudhary. The seventh season of the fantasy show wrapped on June 14, 2026.
