Harleen Sethi is best remembered for her impactful role of a lovelorn girl Sameera in the first two seasons of the web show Broken But Beautiful. The actress played the part of a girl hurt in love really beautifully and received rave reviews for it as well. She was looking forward for that appreciation to convert into better offers, but that somehow didn’t really pan out in the way she hoped it would and in a recent exclusive conversation with Bollywood Bubble, the actress opened up about it.

When mentioned that while initially there were some really good offers coming her way after Broken But Beautiful, they suddenly then stopped, Harleen Sethi admitted that it did affect her. She said, Of course it bothered me. I think at that time when first Broken (But Beautiful) came out, I was also a bit too choosy and I didn’t really know what kind of an actor I wanted to be and what is it that I wanted to do. But when you are new to it, aapko ek hi image hoti hai dimaag mein of a ‘heroine’ or a ‘hero’. (But when you are new to it, you just have the image of becoming a ‘heroine’ or a ‘hero’.) OTT changed that.”

She went on insist, “But at that time obviously I was being slightly more choosy. I didn’t take up a lot of things which I thought, something better will come, better than this. And then the next two years, the Covid happened. So, wo 2 saal to sab ghar pe baithe the. (Those two years everyone was sitting at home.) And then after Covid, for the last six months, I have only been travelling. In these last 2 years, I have also realised what kind of an actor I wanted to be. I want to do projects where I am not even recognised, that’s my goal.”

However, rejections do affect any artist. So, when asked if she received any reasons for rejections that she didn’t agree with, she quipped, Aapko film nahi mil rahi aap agree kaise karoge. (When you are not getting any film, how would you agree or disagree.)”

On a serious note though, she went on to recall being replaced because of her co-actor’s demands. She shared, Sometimes an A-lister actor who you are cast opposite, will say yes first and then eventually say ‘no no, I want someone known’ later. So, all of those things have happened and I have been told what the reasons are. Sometimes the platform suddenly has gone with a family which has had this background and all of these things are also very decent.”

Harleen then spoke about a recent incident where she was replaced by an A-list actress in a project that she was almost finalised for. “I was almost locked for a part with a very big production house, then again an A-lister suddenly came out of nowhere, she never auditioned for it, but just because she said yes, she got the part without auditioning. And I literally went through 3 rounds of auditions with the director, the production house. So, a lot of these things happen but you understand. I’ve just started understanding but in the beginning, obviously bura lagta hai jab aapko nahi pata hota that how these things work. (I’ve just started understanding but in the beginning, obviously you feel bad when you are unaware of how these things work),” she narrated.
