Following the Bandra Magistrate Court’s order, an FIR has been filed against Kangana Ranaut and her sister Rangoli Chandel for sedition and promoting enmity between different religious groups. Bandra police registered the case against the Ranaut sisters on Saturday.

The court had ordered the police to register FIR against the actress and her sister based on the complaint filed by the casting director and fitness trainer Munnawar Ali Sayyed. He had accused the Ranaut sisters of spreading communal hatred via their social media posts and interviews.

According to a Times of India report, the Bandra police has registered the FIR against the Ranaut sisters under 124A (sedition), 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion) and 295A (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting their religion or religious beliefs) sections of Indian Penal Code.

As per a PTI report, while announcing its order, the metropolitan magistrate Jaydeo Khule had said, “On prima facie perusal of complaint and submissions… I found the cognizable offence has been committed by the accused. Total allegations are based upon comment on electronic media — Twitter and interviews. The accused used social media like Twitter. The thorough investigation is necessary by the expert… search and seizure are necessary in this case.”

The complainant, Sayyed, had requested the court to investigate the real motive behind the hate tweets posted by the Ranauts. He had also pointed out that in almost all their tweets, the Ranaut sisters maliciously bring in religion. Kangana’s comparison of Mumbai to Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) to calling BMC as ‘Babur Sena’, Sayyed has cited all these as an example in his complaint. Interestingly, Rangoli’s handle is already suspended on Twitter.

Yesterday reacting on the court’s order to file FIR against the Ranaut sisters, the ‘Panga’ actress’ lawyer Rizwan Siddiquee had tweeted, “Order passed by the Learned Magistrate shall be legally dealt with on “merits” as per procedure of law. Right of speech & expression should not be construed as promoting communal disharmony. Having personally known Kangana I can firmly say that she is not against any religion.(sic)”

Whereas Kangana once again took a dig at Maharashtra government and tweeted, “Who all are fasting on Navratris? Pictures clicked from today’s celebrations as I am also fasting, meanwhile, another FIR filed against me, Pappu sena in Maharashtra seems to be obsessing over me, don’t miss me so much I will be there soon#Navratri(sic).”
