Ali Fazal on Judi Dench and 'Victoria & Abdul'

It’s been a few hours after the trailer release of Hollywood film ‘Victoria & Abdul‘ and Ali fazal is all over the news. The film stars Ali Fazal playing the title role of Abdul and he shares screen space with veteran Hollywood star Judi Dench, who plays Queen Victoria. Touted to be based on a true story, the film might just be a turning point in the career of Ali Fazal. Sharing his experience on working with Judi Dench, the actor shared how he met her for the first time and eventually with passing time they became friends.

He said at the trailer launch, “The first day we met, we had lunch, just to know each other and break the ice. I was obviously very happy. She is one of the actors we have grown up watching. I touched her feet, hugged her… I was ecstatic. She put me at ease. She was sweet and soon we became friends.” (Also Read: Here’s why Ali Fazal turned down an international project)

Further, the ‘Fukrey’ actor was even asked about what the veteran star thinks of films made in India. To which, Ali first chose to do a dancing step from ‘Vicky Donor’ which clearly hinted at the popular song and dance formula in Bollywood.

Then he replied saying, “That’s unfortunate right? We hate it. That’s why I told her that’s not Bollywood. We are much more than that. But she loves India, she has been here. We spoke a lot about Indian food and of course, Bollywood. She, I think, is a little heartbroken that she couldn’t be here. She is hoping to make it to India later. Hope it happens.” [sic]

Well, we sincerely hope that it happens soon and we could see the onscreen ‘Victoria & Abdul’ promoting this film together in India as well.

Talking about the film, it is directed by Stephen Friers. Based on the novel of the same name by Shrabani Basu, the film is slated to hit the screens on September 22, 2017.
