Known for redefining the modern-day romantic hero in Bollywood, Imran Khan carved a niche for himself with films like Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na, I Hate Luv Storys and Break Ke Baad. At a time when larger-than-life, hyper-masculine characters dominated the screen, Imran brought a refreshing, emotionally aware and relatable charm to his roles, making him a fan favourite.
Imran Khan REACTS To Being Called ‘Berozgar’ Following Bollywood Break
However, at the peak of his popularity in the late 2000s and early 2010s, the actor stepped away from films, leaving many wondering about his sudden absence. Recently, in a candid Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything) session, Imran not only addressed questions about his break from acting but also spoke about broader topics like fame, personal identity and even the rise of toxic masculinity in Bollywood storytelling.
During the interaction, a Redditor casually asked him, “Kya bhai, kya chal raha? Sab thik thak? Koi berozgaar wala tana to nahi marta naa? Or marta bhi hai to deflect kaise karte?” Imran Khan replied, “Sab theek bhai! Aise logon se kya kaha jaa sakta hai?” He also added a GIF that read, “Yeah, well, that’s just, like, your opinion, man.”
When another fan asked, “How do you earn money other than from movies?” the actor kept it simple and honest, responding, “I invest wisely and live simply.”
Imran Khan On ‘Leaving’ Bollywood During His Peak
The conversation soon turned more introspective when a fan questioned his decision to step away at the peak of his career. “You kind of disappeared at your peak. What made you step away from films, and do you ever regret it?” Imran responded, “I had started to lose sense of who I was outside of my public identity.”
He further elaborated on the emotional toll of fame, explaining, “The ‘public’ side of me is just a part of who I am, but I felt like that was taking over, leaving no appreciation for anything else in my life. I needed to understand who I am outside of that persona, and whether I could have value for myself as just a person… Today, I’m emotionally healthier and feeling better than at any time in the past 20 years, so no regrets.”
Imran Khan: I’ve Enjoyed My Time In Public Eye
Reflecting on his time away from the spotlight, he added, “I’ve enjoyed my time out of the public eye. It gave me the chance to really process and adjust my relationship with the nature of fame. It’s a strange beast, and can easily get the better of you if you don’t deal with it consciously.”
Beyond personal reflections, Imran also touched upon evolving trends in Bollywood, including his concerns around toxic masculinity and the kind of narratives being celebrated today, further highlighting why his return to cinema is being closely watched by fans.
After staying away from the big screen for over a decade, Imran recently made a brief appearance in Happy Patel: Khatarnaak Jasoos, marking his first on-screen outing since Katti Batti. He is now gearing up for a full-fledged comeback with Adhure Hum Adhure Tum, which is expected to release on Netflix in the latter half of the year, much to the excitement of his fans.
