Junaid Khan Doesn’t Hate The Word ‘Nepotism’; Confesses, “I Get A Lot Of Work Because I’m Aamir Khan’s Son”

Junaid Khan has opened up candidly about nepotism, privilege, and how casting decisions work in Bollywood. The actor, son of Aamir Khan, said he understands why the debate around star kids continues. He also admitted that marketability often plays a bigger role than performance in the industry.

In a recent conversation with Vickey Lalwani on his YouTube channel, Junaid Khan spoke about how the term nepotism does not bother him. He said he accepts the reality of his position in the industry. He shared, “The word ‘nepotism’ doesn’t irritate me because it’s true. I get a lot of work because I’m Aamir Khan’s son.”

He was also asked about his personal life. He added with humour, “Sir, abhi 2 flops ke baad kaam mil raha hai, kaam karne dijiye na.”

Junaid Khan also explained how producers often prioritise commercial viability over casting the best-fit actor for a role. According to him, this approach heavily influences who gets opportunities in films.

He said, “Producers have to sell their films; therefore, they will hire someone they can sell. Their priority is what they can sell, not what is best for the film. They are not looking at which actor suits the character best, but rather which actor can be marketed more easily… For me, it’s not an insider versus outsider debate. It’s about not casting someone just because you can sell them. Cast someone who is right for the film.”

Beyond this, Junaid also reflected on his relationship with his father, Aamir Khan, in the same interaction. He revealed that he would no longer prefer discussing scripts with him and also expressed that he would not want Aamir Khan to produce films for him going forward, as he wants to build his own independent identity in the industry.
