Karan Johar on being made fun of his strong feminine side: Shah Rukh Khan made me feel like an equal

Nearly for 30 years, filmmaker Karan Johar and megastar Shah Rukh Khan have been friends and collaborators. The two have delivered engaging movies whenever they have teamed up for a project. Be it Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, and many more. Shah Rukh Khan and Karan Johar have won thousands of hearts by connecting emotionally with the audience.

Given their friendship, Karan Johar has now shared that Shah Rukh Khan became his go-to person to share personal issues or struggles related to his sexuality and personality.

Karan Johar opens up about a personal life experience

In a podcast with We Are Yuvaa, Karan Johar shared a personal and critical life experience and how Shah Rukh Khan was the one who made him feel comfortable with his sexuality. On the podcast, Karan said that SRK was born and brought up in a progressive environment, has been doing theatre, and has also worked with all kinds of people. Karan added that when his feminine side was coming out stronger, it was met with laughter and there was a little chitter-chatter with the way he was talking and speaking.

Further, he shared how King Khan made him feel normal with just the way he is. Karan said, “I remember Shah Rukh Khan was the first, kind of like, man that didn’t make me feel lesser for some reason. He made me feel like an equal. I feel like he accepted what in those days were considered being pansy, being effeminate or walking funny. He was just so cool about anything. He even had a lot of open chats with me. Whenever I had to say the biggest thing about my personality and sexuality, I spoke to him first. He was that one sense of support. Even he doesn’t realise what he’s been to me.”

Karan Johar delved deeper into the conversation and said, “It’s what he didn’t say. It’s what he didn’t bring up. It’s what he normalized, that I sat funny or walked funny. Whenever I said campy things, he laughed. He would hang out with me, laugh with me. It isn’t what he said, it’s what he didn’t say. It’s all that matters.”

Needless to say, Karan Johar has found a gem of a friend in Shah Rukh Khan. There’s no denying that SRK has won hearts every now and then. Be it to understand women, give out thoughts of wisdom, messages of hard work and many more, he cherishes the love of thousands of his fans and followers.
