A filmmaker or a producer will surely know how much business a movie is making at the box office. While some tank at the box office there are some that have smashed all the records. Nevertheless, recently, filmmaker Karan Johar who has backed the South Indian film Baahubali series recently praised the South industry and called it ‘lucrative’.

On Masters’ Union podcast, Karan Johar said, “I have so much emotion. My heart lies in Hindi cinema. But if you ask me, as a business person, I think Telugu is a far more lucrative industry,” he added. KJo said that even though his heart lies in Hindi cinema but as a businessperson, he took a jibe at the movie stars who ask 20 cr fee but can’t promise 5 cr opening.

The Ae Dil Hai Mushkil director said, “Unfortunately, a pie of that is with the movie stars. I might be murdered for saying this, but if you are opening to five crores and you are asking me for 20 crores, how is that fair? Delusion is one disease that has no vaccine.

In the same podcast, Johar also revealed that his 2012 directorial, Student Of The Year, cost him losing money, even though it was declared a hit. He said, “Yash Chopra told me, ‘A film never fails, a budget does’. Like Student of the Year. I made a hit film, but lost money.

South movies like Pushpa: The Rise, KGF 2, Kantara, RRR and many more have done fantastic business at the box office. In 2022, these films have done more business than Bollywood movies.

Meanwhile, Karan Johar will be directing Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani starring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt. The family entertainer also stars Shabana, Jaya Bachchan and Dharmendra in pivotal roles. The movie is slated to release this year.
