Karan Johar Priyanka Chopra Alia Bhatt Shah Rukh Khan

Filmmaker Karan Johar sparked massive buzz on social media after fans noticed that he had unfollowed several Bollywood celebrities on Instagram. The move triggered speculation about possible fallouts with close industry friends, especially after names like Shah Rukh Khan, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Alia Bhatt and Manish Malhotra disappeared from his following list. However, Karan later addressed the chatter and clarified that the move had nothing to do with personal equations.

Karan Johar Calls His Mass Unfollow Move A ‘Digital Detox’

Karan Johar shocked fans on Thursday after he unfollowed several actors, friends and colleagues on Instagram. Soon after the move went viral online, the filmmaker took to Instagram Stories to explain the reason behind it. According to Karan, the unfollow spree is simply part of a personal ‘digital detox.’

Karan wrote, “It’s a DIGITAL DETOX!!!! Am unfollowing everyone to reduce my time and energy spent on the gram!!! This can’t be national news for gods sake… please clickbait something else! This is irrelevant!” (sic)

As of Friday morning, Karan is reportedly following only 74 accounts on Instagram despite having more than 17.5 million followers. Social media users quickly noticed that several prominent Bollywood names no longer appeared on his following list. These included Shah Rukh Khan, Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Manish Malhotra, Varun Dhawan, Sidharth Malhotra, Malaika Arora and Ananya Panday. Even Kartik Aaryan, who headlines Dharma Productions’ upcoming film Naagzilla, was missing from the list.

Who Is Karan Johar Still Following?

Interestingly, fans also observed that Karan currently does not follow any mainstream Bollywood actor on the platform. However, a few notable personalities still remain on his following list. These include Priyanka Chopra, Dharma Productions CEO Apoorva Mehta, businessman Adar Poonawalla and socialite Natasha Poonawalla. Karan also continues to follow luxury fashion label Sabyasachi, while neither Manish Malhotra nor his brand appears on the list despite their recent public appearances together receiving attention online.

Apart from Indian personalities, Karan still follows several international celebrities, including Halsey, DJ Snake, Channing Tatum, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and Chris Hemsworth.

Karan Johar has remained one of Bollywood’s most active celebrities on social media over the years. He frequently shares updates about films, fashion, travel, family moments and industry friendships. His Instagram Stories, in particular, often feature candid interactions with celebrities, promotional posts and glimpses of his personal life with children Yash and Roohi.

On the work front, Karan recently backed Chand Mera Dil starring Ananya Panday and Lakshya. He is also producing Naagzilla with Kartik Aaryan in the lead, along with several upcoming Dharma Productions projects currently in development.
