While Mamta Kulkarni has made it to the headlines, it was back in 2016 that the actress grabbed attention again. Mamta, who is said to have reportedly married drug lord Vicky Goswami had come under the scanner and was tagged as ‘Wanted’ by the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). Kulkarni was under the spotlight after Goswami’s arrest.

Talking about the case that Goswami was arrested in, it involved a drug bust of ephedrine worth Rs 2,000 crore in the international market, by the Thane police, then headed by Param Bir Singh. The busy involved the recovery of 18.5 tonnes of the narcotics substance. The police probe back then mentioned that the material seized by them was to be used to manufacture methamphetamine, which is also popularly known as meth.

Back in 2019, Kulkarni had then approached the Bombay High Court to squash the case against her, where the NDPS court in Mumbai had declared Goswami and the actress as ‘proclaimed offenders’. As the court had ordered the sealing of Kulkarni’s properties along with that of Goswami’s, she made a plea and requested her bank accounts, FDs to be de-frozen and her two flats to be de-sealed.

In the plea, Mamta had said that the police had no ‘solid ground’ to prove her involvement in the drug racket and that she was only named for her cordial relations with Goswami. Back then, Goswami also called Kulkarni a well-wisher and not his wife.

However, Mamta Kulkarni’s plea was rejected by the court, earlier this year.
