Lilliput, known as MM Faruqui, sharply compared Shah Rukh Khan and Kamal Haasan’s portrayals of dwarfs in their films and criticised the Bollywood star. SRK’s depiction of a dwarf in Zero left many disappointed, and the film’s failure at the box office reportedly prompted SRK to reconsider his choices. However, Lilliput remains unimpressed with SRK’s performance, especially in comparison to Kamal Haasan’s portrayal in Appu Raja. He stated that SRK’s talent is not even on the same level as the dirt on the South superstar’s feet.
Lilliput Compares Shah Rukh Khan, Kamal Haasan Playing Dwarfs
In an interview with Red FM Podcasts, Lilliput explained, “Someone who is not blind will act like they are blind, but for a person who is not a dwarf, how will you act like a dwarf? Because dwarfs are normal, their hand movements are normal, they laugh and think like anyone else. They only look different. So, how will you act that out? You will make him look smaller technically.”
He also criticised SRK’s star power, saying, “We know you are good-looking and cute, so our impression of what you are ends there. We are not looking at a dwarf, we are looking at a hero who has been made to look like a dwarf via visual effects.” He questioned the message of the script, asking, “And what is your script trying to say?”
Lilliput Compares Zero To Appu Raju
Drawing a comparison to Kamal Haasan’s Appu Raja, Lilliput highlighted the attention to detail in Kamal’s performance. He said, “You look at Appu Raja’s intelligence. Kamal Haasan picked out the details of the physicality of a dwarf person.” He elaborated, “Dwarfs are a little distorted, their fingers are smaller, a little thicker, their arms, face, and feet are different. So, when you are not able to leave an impact, then why are you making it? And how could you think that you would leave an impact?”
Lilliput even pointed out the acting differences, saying, “Kamal ji ki aap copy kar rahe ho. Unke acting ki charno ki dhool bhi nahi ho aap” (You are copying Kamal ji when you are not even equal to the dirt on his feet).
After Zero’s failure, Shah Rukh Khan took a break from acting to reassess his career. He made a notable comeback in 2023 with Pathaan, Jawan, and Dunki. Recently, he received his first Best Actor National Award for his role in Jawan.
