Natkhat starring Vidya Balan has entered the race for Oscars 2021 in the Best Short Film category. The short film has been directed by Shaan Vyas. Vidya had earlier shared the news of the film being selected in the Oscars race. She tweeted, “So so so thrilled that our film #NATKHAT is in the race for the #OSCARS2021 after a 2020 filled with prestigious international film festivals.”

On February 4, she shared a short clip from the film that shows the mother (Vidya Balan) massaging her son’s (Sanika Patel) head and asking about his conversation. He then tells that girls should be taken to the jungle to teach a lesson. He says, “Mother, one of my friends slapped a boy in the school because he was just pulling her hair. How can a girl slap a boy in front of anyone on just a small thing? So we boys decided to teach her a lesson and abducted her and took her to the jungle.” The mother is shocked to hear such things from her son.

Natkhat talks about patriarchy and gender equality. The film is produced by Ronnie Screwvala (RSVP Movies) and Vidya Balan. Getting the nomination in Oscars is indeed a huge achievement for the entire team. We wish Natkhat brings home the prestigious award this year.

The 93rd Academy Awards was to be held on February 28, but due to the Covid-19 pandemic, it has been postponed to April 25.
