Neena Gupta recalls horrifying ordeal of being molested as a child: I was scared stiff while it was happening

Senior Bollywood actor Neena Gupta opened up about being molested by a doctor and a tailor while she was growing up. The actress recalled the horrifying incident. Neena Gupta mentioned that the incident took place when she visited an optician. She shared how her brother was asked to sit outside the waiting room while she was getting herself checked. The actress revealed she didn’t tell her mother about it. Gupta shared that she was scared to be blamed for it and hence didn’t tell her mother.

Recalling one of her bad memories, in the book Sach Kahun Toh, Neena Gupta wrote, “The doctor started with examining my eye and then went down to check out other areas that were unconnected with my eye. I was scared stiff while it was happening and felt disgusted all the way home. I sat in a corner in the house and cried my eyes out when nobody was looking.”

The actress added, “But I didn’t dare tell my mother about this because I was so scared that she would say that it was my fault. That I had probably said or done something to provoke him. This happened to me many times at the doctor’s.”

Neena Gupta shared another similar incident that took place during her visit to a tailor. She recalled how the tailor tried to be “too handsy” when she was giving her body measurements. The actress revealed she, unfortunately, kept going back despite the bad experience. In her book, Gupta explained, “I felt like I had no choice. If I told my mother that I didn’t want to go to them, she would ask me why and I would have to tell her.”

The Uunchai actress mentioned how she later found out that most girls had to face such situations. She shared that most girls who faced such situations never dared to tell their parents about it.

In her memoir, Gupta also opened up about many important aspects and experiences of her life. She spoke about falling in love with cricketer Sir Vivian Richards, raising her daughter Masaba Gupta as a single mother, and much more.
