Earlier Nupur Alankar, who has been part of many popular shows like ‘Swaragini’ and ‘Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon?…Ek Baar Phir’ was stuck in financial crisis due to the Punjab and Maharashtra Co-operative (PMC) Bank scam. She was in urgent need of money and her good friend Renuka Shahane asked for financial help on behalf of Nupur. Akshay Kumar was generous enough to help the actress out and she is very grateful.

Nupur told Bombay Times in an interview, “Help poured in from many friends, but the medical and other expenses kept rising. Then came a point where I started approaching various NGOs for free medicines. Soon, I realised that things had further spiralled out of control.” She added, “ That’s when I posted the details regarding my mother’s health complications on a crowdfunding platform. I was apprehensive initially, but my friend, actress Rajeshwari Sachdev, convinced me to do it for the sake of my mother. I have no shame in asking people for money, it’s for my mother’s treatment. I am especially grateful to Akshay Kumar, Renuka Shahane, Ayub Khan, Hetal Parmar, Darshan Zariwala, Manoj Joshi and CINTAA for helping me.”

Renuka took to her Twitter handle to explain how Akshay helped out, she wrote in a series of tweets, “An angel from our film industry has helped Nupur with a staggering help that will help Nupur’s mother get the best possible treatment. This angel has already helped so many actors, workers from the film industry without any expectation of even a thank you in return. He read about my fb post asking for help on Twitter. He called Ranaji for details about what I had shared. He asked how much Nupur needed. I told him the amount she had asked for and he told me that it will be done. And it was & topped up with more.”
