In a recent development on Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s historical romance ‘Padmavati’, a member of CBFC has stated that the a panel of historians will be appointed to view the movie. The source from CBFC said that the makers of ‘Padmavati’ had complicated their case with a disclaimer which stated that the movie is based on historical facts partially.

The source said, “The content will now have to be scrutinised for authenticity.” He added that the movie could only get a certification in January as December is almost over. Added the source, “We have not scheduled the film. There are at least 40 feature films in different languages waiting in the queue before ‘Padmavati’.” He also gave the reason of some certain board members being unwell and the others being on a holiday.

The source further revealed, “Forget about appointing a panel of historians, we don’t even have a normal Examining Committee to view all the films. Even by conservative estimates the film won’t be certified before the second week of January. I don’t think they can release the film before March or April. That is, provided the CBFC clears the film without any objection.” (Also Read: Priyanka comes out in SUPPORT of SLB’s ‘Padmavati’)

‘Padmavati’ ran into troubled waters with the Karni Sena Members who called for a ban on the movie citing distortion of historical facts as a reason. The movie which was to release on November 17 was postponed to December 1 and sadly had to defer its release date due to incessant threats against lead actress Deepika Padukone and director Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Now, it’s up to the CBFC to quickly certify the movie, but going by what the CBFC member said, it seems that the movie will not release before March-April next year.
