It won’t be wrong to say that Thalapathy Vijay’s swansong has fallen short of box office expectations. Exhibitors have even pointed out a sharp weekday drop after a strong opening weekend. Kamal Gianchandani, Chief Business Planning & Strategy, PVR INOX Limited told Moneycontrol, “Jana Nayagan is slightly below expectations. “The delay has cost us at the box office. But it has still done about 75-80% of what we expected. The Hindi version, Jan Neta, has performed in line with our expectations.”
About The Film
Jana Nayagan, directed by H. Vinoth, is reportedly Vijay’s final acting project and was initially envisioned as a farewell film before the upcoming elections. The production, by KVN Productions, reportedly had a budget of Rs 500 crore. The film features a star-studded cast including Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, and Mamitha Baiju. The music has been composed by Anirudh Ravichander.
Giving the film a 3.5 star rating, Bollywood Bubble wrote in its review, “If you are a Thalapathy Vijay fans, do go to theatres only to celebrate the actor-turned-Chief Minister’s legacy. This 3-hour-long political thriller is very relevant to what happening in the nation today. Jan Neta – or Jana Nayagan, is an apt farewell to this legend the world knows as Chief Minister Thalapathy C Joseph Vijay.”
