After headlines about his cancelled wedding with cricketer Smriti Mandhana, Palaash Muchhal is now facing legal trouble. A case has been filed against the music composer for allegedly making casteist remarks against Smriti’s childhood friend from Sangli. The FIR was registered under the provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
Palaash Muchhal’s Ex-Fiance Smriti Mandhana’s Friend Files Complaint For Making Casteist Remark
As reported by TV9 Marathi, the complaint was lodged by Vigyan Prakash Mane, a resident of Sangli and a childhood friend of Smriti. He claims that the incident took place on November 22 at a toll plaza on the Sangli–Ashta road. Palaash allegedly made caste-based derogatory remarks during an argument. The police have registered a case under Section 3(1) of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, along with Sections 351(2) and 352. And the police is currently investigating the matter.
The dispute reportedly originated over a financial issue. Police stated that Palash had borrowed Rs 25 lakh from Vigyan Mane for a film project. And, Mane later approached him to recover the money. During this confrontation, Mane alleges that Palash used casteist slurs. Mane shared, “He promised me to complete the film in six months, but he turned out to be a fraud. When I demanded my money back, he avoided it. When I met him, he abused me using casteist remarks, which I can’t even repeat on camera. His mindset is very dirty,” Mane said.
What Was Palaash-Smriti’s Wedding Fiasco?
Palaash and Smriti’s personal lives have also been in the spotlight. Their wedding was scheduled for November 23 last year. However, it was cancelled due to a medical emergency involving Smriti’s father. The situation worsened when Palaash was also hospitalised in Mumbai. Rumours then swirled, with some alleging that Palaash had cheated on Smriti.
Palash later addressed the rumours via Instagram. He stated, “I have decided to move on in my life and step back from my personal relationship.” He added, “It’s been very difficult for me to see people react so easily to baseless rumours about something that has been sacred to me. This is the most challenging phase of my life, but I will face it gracefully, holding on to my beliefs. I hope society learns to pause before judging someone based on unverified gossip, whose sources are never clear. Words can wound deeply, in ways we may never fully understand.”
Since calling off the wedding, Palash and Smriti have unfollowed each other on Instagram. They have not made any further public comments about their situation.
