Harish Shankar, the director of Ustaad Bhagat Singh, has addressed the film’s clash with Dhurandhar 2, clarifying that the decision on the release date was not entirely in his control. Following the postponement of Toxic, Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar 2 is now set to release alongside Pawan Kalyan’s Ustaad Bhagat Singh, creating considerable buzz in the industry. However, Harish Shankar remains unfazed by the competition, asserting that the box office can accommodate two to three big films simultaneously.
Ustaad Bhagat Singh Director On Box Office Clash With Dhurandhar 2
In an interview with Gulte, Harish clarified that the timing of the release was a collective decision and not solely his choice. When asked about the box office clash and whether he felt nervous about competing with Dhurandhar 2, he openly praised his rival. He stated, “With all due respect, Aditya Dhar is a superior filmmaker. I watched Uri, and he is a very impactful, influential director. Films across India should consider Dhurandhar as competition. But in our Telugu market, we have our own space. Also, they belong to different genres. If Dhurandhar was an SRK (Shah Rukh Khan) film—full of songs and entertainment—we might think differently. But Bhagat Singh and Dhurandhar are entirely different movies.”
He added, “It’s a collective decision, not just mine. I also felt that since I’m working with Pawan Sir after a long time, it’s natural to think about the competition. But whether it’s Sankranti or summer, there’s room for 2-3 big films to succeed. It’s not like only Dhurandhar will be shown across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.”
Harish expressed confidence in Pawan Kalyan’s massive fan base. Pawan Kalyan’s Ustaad Bhagat Singh moved up its release date to March 19, coinciding with Ugadi. And it will now clash with Dhurandhar 2, starring Ranveer Singh.
