Priyadarshan recently criticised the entourage culture in Bollywood, saying he truly despises it. He added that it is exhausting to see several people come to film sets, do nothing, and still make easy money. Scroll down to read more.

Priyardshan Opens Up On Entourage Culture In Bollywood

Veteran filmmaker Priyadarshan has expressed frustration over Bollywood’s entourage culture. The filmmaker said the excessive crowd on film sets makes his work difficult. Known for directing several iconic Malayalam and Hindi films, he added that he has largely observed this culture only in Bollywood.

During a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter India, Priyadarshan expressed frustration over overcrowding on set. He said a large number of people accompany actors on film sets. Adding to this, he pointed at how, while he may be working with just three actors, nearly thirty others stand around doing nothing. This often leads to blocking his view—something he claims he has only encountered in Bollywood. Speaking about it in an irritated tone, he said, “I only get exhausted seeing the people around actors. On a floor, if I am working with three actors, I will see thirty people who are doing nothing and just standing around. I cannot see my visuals through the camera. They are blocking my view. I have never seen this in any other place than Bollywood.”

Having worked in Hindi cinema since the early ’90s, Priyadarshan described this as a relatively recent trend and expressed his dislike for the unnecessary crowd on sets. Emphasising his frustration, he said, “So many people come onto the set, and they do nothing and make money. This is exhausting me. I hate it. It’s the only thing I dislike about Bollywood.”

Priyadarshan’s Upcoming Films

After a brief hiatus from Hindi cinema, Priyadarshan is set to return with two films starring Akshay Kumar—Bhoot Bangla and the recently completed thriller Haiwaan. He is also expected to direct the much-awaited comedy sequel Hera Pheri 3, which has been facing delays due to legal complications involving franchise ownership and music rights.

The filmmaker has directed several acclaimed films across Malayalam, Tamil, and Hindi cinema. His Hindi filmography features popular titles such as Bhool Bhulaiyaa, Hungama, Hulchul, Malamaal Weekly, and Chup Chup Ke.

Meanwhile, Bhoot Bangla, starring Akshay Kumar, also features Tabu, Paresh Rawal, Rajpal Yadav, Wamiqa Gabbi, Mithila Palkar, and the late Asrani. The film is slated to hit theatres on April 10, 2026.
