In a conversation with Jay Shetty, Priyanka Chopra admitted it’s tough to read hate comments. Talking about the comments she receives, she said, “I mean, it’s hard. I still will read a comment here or there, and I’m like, why? Like, what did I do to you? Why be so mean? I don’t even know you. I’ve never met you. You’ve seen some aspects of my life and decided I might be this horrible person, or that we’re not right together. Why? So it still, sometimes in weak moments, will get me, as so many other mean things do. But in general, I think I’m just in a place where I want to focus on the good in my life. And I feel really blessed to have the good that I do. It’s not been an easy journey, and to be in a place where you come out of a storm and the sun is shining, and you just take that moment- I feel like I’m in that moment right now.”

Priyanka Chopra States Criticism Has Always Existed

Priyanka Chopra shared that in today’s social media era, people can instantly see and read others’ opinions about themselves. However, she emphasized that public conversations and judgments have always existed, even long before the rise of social media platforms. Adding to these passed-over comments, she said, “One is, we are living in a time and a period where we get to see and read the opinions that people have of us. Right. Like before social media, back in the day, you thought the aunties weren’t talking in the kitchen? Everyone was talking about everything. We just didn’t hear about it.”

She further added that she feels nothing has really changed and that people have always had opinions. However, what has changed is the volume of information people are now consuming. The actress, on this note, said, “So take that power away. This is all the same people who would have talked about you guys even 40 years ago if you were in the position that you’re in. That’s kind of the gig. When you become a public person, people will have an opinion on you. So protect your sanity by understanding that this comes with the job, it comes with the territory.”

The Bluff star also added, “Of course, it can still affect you and hurt because it comes across your timeline, and you’re like, why? What’s the need for it? The second thing that I really strongly believe. It’s no one’s business, honestly. And that’s okay. Like, you share as much as you need to and what feels right. And even within our families, especially Indian families, everyone’s in your business. Everyone wants to know all the things. But even there, I believe that if it’s not your business, I don’t need to tell you.“

Priyanka Chopra further explained that she believes it is essential to shield oneself from the “cacophony of opinions” and carefully consider whether reacting to something is truly necessary or constructive. Emphasizing self-preservation, she added, “You gotta nip it in the bud and be like, that’s not something I need to waste my time on.”
