Gujarat bans Padmavati

It looks like Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Padmavati’ woes don’t seem to end soon. The movie, which was supposed to hit the screens on December 1, 2017, has been postponed. But, thanks to all the protests against the film a couple of states have been asking for an out and out ban on the release of the film. The first state to officially stop the release of ‘Padmavati’ is Gujarat and the Information & Broadcasting Department in the name of the Governor of Gujarat has issued a notice too.

The state government in the notice has written that they have banned the movie to maintain law and order in their state. Here’s the official letter which states that the movie has been banned:

This is surely a sad news for the moviegoers in Gujarat who were keen on watching the film. (Also Read: Padmavati: More trouble ensues for the movie, as Gujarat too bans it)

Gujarat elections are going to take place in two phases on 9th and 14th December. Taking this into consideration, the Government of Gujarat thought it was in the best interests to ban the film so that the elections go on peacefully. Now we aren’t sure about the connection of ‘Padmavati’ with the Gujarat elections but the protests against the film surely seem to be going out of hand.

The entire backlash against ‘Padmavati’ started a year back with rumours of a romantic dream sequence between Rani Padmavati (Deepika Padukone) and Sultan Alauddin Khilji (Ranveer Singh). However, the makers have cleared numerous times that there’s no such scene in the film.

Recently, the movie was also shown to some senior journalists and they too had cleared on national television that there’s no objectionable scene in the film, and also Deepika and Ranveer don’t even share a single scene.
