Rajkummar Rao Begins Shooting Dada The Sourav Ganguly Biopic; Shares BTS Pics From Sets

Rajkummar Rao has officially commenced shooting for the much-anticipated biopic, Dada: The Sourav Ganguly Story, at the iconic Eden Gardens. Directed by Vikramaditya Motwane, the film chronicles the inspiring journey of Sourav Ganguly, the legendary Indian cricketer known as the Bengal Tiger and the God of the Off Side. Rao, who is undergoing a significant physical transformation for the role, shared his excitement on social media, marking the start of production after years of speculation.

On Instagram, Rao posted a sneak peek with the caption, “And it begins… The one and only #DADA,” along with a photo taken at Eden Gardens—a venue synonymous with Ganguly’s illustrious career. Luv Ranjan produces the project under Luv Films and reunites Rao with director Vikramaditya Motwane. It follows their successful collaboration on Trapped.

While the rest of the cast remains under wraps, the film boasts a talented technical team. It includes cinematographer Siddharth Diwan, known for his work in Qala, Queen, and Trapped.

Rao’s Preparation For The Role

The actor’s physical transformation has garnered attention, with fans expressing concern earlier this year. Rao clarified that his changing appearance was part of his preparation for multiple projects, including the Ganguly biopic. He emphasised his preference for achieving such transformations through dedicated effort rather than prosthetics. In a detailed Instagram note, Rao explained how he gained weight by consuming calorie-rich foods for another biographical project. It was before switching gears to prepare for his role as Ganguly. He is now working on losing that weight to authentically portray the cricket icon.

Rajkummar’s Projects

On the career front, Rao was last seen in Maalik and has an upcoming OTT release titled Toaster, co-starring Sanya Malhotra, scheduled to premiere on April 15. Additionally, he is set to portray renowned lawyer Ujjwal Nikam in another biopic, a role that initially saw him gaining weight to match the character’s physicality.
