YouTuber Paras Singh aka Bunty, whose name is Paras Official on his YouTube channel, was arrested in Ludhiana on Tuesday for allegedly using racial remarks against a Congress MLA from Arunachal Pradesh. He had called Congress MLA Ninong Ering a non-Indian and claimed that Arunachal was a part of China. He had apparently made the racist comments while reacting to a letter written by the MLA to PM Narendra Modi, where he had sought a ban on the relaunch of PUBG Mobile as Battlegrounds Mobile India. Paras’ racial slur irked a section of netizens and especially the Arunchalees are they are furious over his remarks and it sparked outrage on social media. “A case has been registered against Paras for racial hatred and the cyber crime branch in Itanagar is investigating the matter,” Arunachal Pradesh police chief RP Upadhyaya said as per a report in Hindustan Times.

Stree director, Amar Kaushik and actor Rajkummar Rao condemned this act by the YouTuber. Kaushik wrote that being ignorant about one’s own country and region is stupidity and when the ignorance is expressed in an offensive manner, it becomes toxic. Rajkummar shared it and wrote, “Not Acceptable. I agree.”

Union minister of state for youth affairs and sports Kiren Rijiju confirmed Paras Singh’s arrest and tweeted that he has spoken to Ludhiana commissioner of police to hand over Paras to Arunachal Pradesh Police. Arunachal Pradesh CM Pema Khandu also condemned it and said the “video aims at inciting ill will and hatred towards the people of Arunachal Pradesh”.

On Monday, Paras apologized for his remarks via a video on his YouTube channel.
