Interestingly, Akshaye Khanna was earlier offered to play an important role in ‘Sanju’. The film was based on the life of Sanjay Dutt which was directed by Raju Hirani. Ranbir Kapoor was in a lead role. However, the role was slipped from Akshaye’s hands as he failed to qualify in the look test.

Currently busy promoting his much-awaited film ‘The Accidental Prime Minister’, Akshaye revealed how he failed to grab the role. He said, “Raj Kumar Hirani and I had a couple of meetings. In spite of innumerable ‘look tests’, I was a misfit in that character. So I missed out on working with him in the biopic.”

It is to be noted that the role offered to him was that of Sanjay’s father, the late actor and politician Sunil Dutt“I feel sad at not being able to work in Sanju after being bestowed upon with a chance to be the part of the film. He (Raju Hirani) is such an incredible and brilliant storyteller,” he added.

However, the ‘Dishoom’ actor considers himself to be lucky to have worked with great people like Sridevi, Kader Khan and father Vinod Khanna. “They were all great stars as well, and working with them was a great experience. I consider myself blessed for having got a chance to work with all of them,” he concluded.
