Every actor in ‘Sanju’ has done justice to the role they played in the Rajkumar Hirani directed biopic. The film’s main focus was on the father-son relation shared by Ranbir Kapoor, who played Sanjay Dutt and Paresh Rawal, who was seen as Sunil Dutt. Interestingly, Paresh Rawal feels he was destined to play Dutt Sahab’s role in the film. He also had an interesting anecdote to share where he had mentioned about a letter which he had received from Sunil Dutt hours before he died.

Now, the letter has gone viral on the internet. Dated May 25,  2005, the letter was printed on Mr. Dutt’s letterhead and read as, “Dear Paresh Ji! As your birthday falls on 30th May, let me wish you all the happiness, prosperity and good luck in life, May God shower his choicest blessings on you and your family.” The letter was dated May 25, 2005, and Paresh Rawal’s birthday falls on May 30.

At ‘Sanju’s’ promotional event, Paresh Rawal had shared the story behind the letter. He said, “In 2005, 25th May, I had come to Mumbai for some patchwork in of my film ‘Deewane Huye Paagal’. Before that I was in USA for my drama shows. As I landed, I went to the hotel and made a call to my wife Swaroop informing that I have reached here but I will come home after finishing the shoot. She said ‘haa’ but there is a letter from Dutt saab. I asked, whose? She said ‘Sunil Dutt saab’.”

He added, “I was like, ‘Why would he write a letter to me?” to which his wife replied, “For your birthday“. Paresh Rawal wondered, “But my birthday is on May 30, why would he write a letter five days before?”

Straight cut to January 2, 2017, when I was at the narration of ‘Sanju’ at Rajkumar Hirani’s office, I got a call from Swaroop asking me what to do of the letter of Dutt saab in the drawer. I asked her if the letter was still there? Earlier you would get birthday letters, which you would eventually clear,” he further said.

He concluded, “However, for over 12 years, the letter stayed in my drawer. This is the connection. Yeh ek kamaal ka connection hai, main isse kya kahu mujhe samaj mein nahi aata… I think I was destined to play Dutt sahab’s role.”
