Anand Ramanand Sagar Chopra Passes Away At 84

Anand Ramanand Sagar Chopra, the son of legendary filmmaker and producer Ramanand Sagar, passed away at the age of 84 in Mumbai. His last rites were performed in Mumbai on February 13, 2026, in the presence of his close family and friends. Anand had reportedly been unwell for over a decade, suffering from Parkinson’s disease.

The family shared the news through an official statement, expressing their grief and requesting prayers for his peaceful journey. The funeral took place at 4:30 PM at Hindu Smashan Bhumi (Pavan Hans), Mumbai. The family statement read, “It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of our dear father Anand Ramanand Sagar Chopra.” They further added, “The last rites will take place on Friday, February 13, 2026, at 4:30 PM, at Hindu Smashan Bhumi (Pavan Hans).” They also requested well-wishes for his soul, stating, “Your prayers and blessings for his peaceful journey are sincerely appreciated. Sagar family.”

Family, friends, and members of the film fraternity gathered to pay their final respects. Actress Bhagyashree was seen arriving at the funeral in Juhu, though no prominent personalities were noted at the quiet ceremony.

Anand Ramanand Sagar Chopra was the son of the legendary Ramanand Sagar, creator of the iconic 1987 TV series Ramayan. As part of the second generation at Sagar Films, Anand contributed significantly to mythological and television productions, including the 2008 Ramayan series, which continued his father’s influential legacy that transformed Indian television in the 1980s. Beyond television, he was involved in film productions such as Ankhen, Armaan, and Alif Laila.

He is survived by his wife, Nisha Sagar, and their children. Ramanand Sagar was married to Leelavati Sagar and had five children: sons Subhash, Moti, Prem, Anand, and daughter Sarita. Starting his career as a writer in the 1940s, Ramanand Sagar contributed to successful films like Barsaat before directing acclaimed movies such as Charas (1976) and Prem Bandhan (1979).
