The trailer of Zoya Akhtar’s ‘Gully Boy’, the new film starring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt, was released on Wednesday. ‘Gully Boy’ is in part based on the life and struggles of rapper Divine – its name is inspired by his breakout song, Mere Gully Mein – and his troupe of street rappers, who go by the name ‘Gully Gang’.

Ranveer Singh plays the role of a street rapper in the film whereas Alia plays his love interest. Meanwhile, Karan Johar, Katrina Kaif, Varun Dhawan and other stars complimented Zoya Akhtar for the fabulous trailer. Notably, the film is all set to release on February 14.

After the launch of trailer, Ranveer Singh asserted that is role is for him and had any other actor done it, he would have been jealous. However, several reports suggest that Ranbir Kapoor was offered a role in the film by director Zoya Akhtar almost 2 years ago when she was finalizing the film’s cast. Ranveer Singh was confirmed to be playing the lead role and Ranbir Kapoor was not interested in playing the supporting role. Hence, he said ‘No’ to the film.

It is to be noted that Zoya Akhtar was also in talks with Ranbir Kapoor for the lead role in her film, ‘Dil Dhadakne Do’. During the promotions of his film ‘Sanju’, Ranbir said that he would love to act with Ranveer Singh in a film. He had added that they should work in a film whose script they both like.

On January 4, in a very unique way, Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt shared a new poster and a trailer announcement video for their upcoming drama, Gully Boy.
