Actor Ranveer Singh’s film Dhurandhar, which faced bans in Pakistan and several Gulf countries during its theatrical run, has unexpectedly found a new foothold across the border. After becoming available to Pakistani audiences through its Netflix release, the spy thriller has now appeared in the country’s pirated markets, where copies are being sold.
Ranveer Singh Led Dhurandhar Sold In Pakistan For High Prices
Recently, New Zealand-based YouTuber Karl Rock shared a video on social media documenting how pirated copies of director Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar are being openly sold in Pakistani markets. In the footage, he is seen walking through busy streets in Pakistan and unexpectedly comes across stalls selling pirated copies of the film in Karachi’s Rainbow Centre.
“Indian films are banned in Pakistan, but look what I found—this is a new film from Hindustan,” Karl states as he approaches a shopkeeper. He then shows a poster of Ranveer Singh in Dhurandhar, with the shop owner confirming that it’s the latest release.
Karl shares some insights about Ranveer Singh, mentioning, “I can tell you a thing or two about Ranveer Singh. He’s Sindhi. His grandparents are from this city, I believe, and they came to India during partition.”
The video also captures Karl asking the shopkeeper about the price of the pirated copy, which is quoted at PKR 50 (around Rs 16). Exclaiming “Bahut sasta” (very cheap), Karl highlights the ease with which such films are accessible despite official restrictions. The clip has quickly gained attention on social media. This comes after how Indian films have been absent from Pakistani cinemas for years due to ongoing border tensions.
About Dhurandhar, Dhurandhar 2
Dhurandhar was released in theatres on December 5 last year and has become a major hit. The film features Ranveer Singh alongside Sanjay Dutt, Akshaye Khanna, R. Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, and Rakesh Bedi. Set in Karachi’s Lyari neighbourhood, the movie revolves around covert intelligence operations amid geopolitical crises. It includes the Kandahar plane hijack, the 2001 Parliament Attack, and the 26/11 Mumbai attacks.
Its sequel is scheduled for release in theatres on March 19, with the official Hindi teaser recently unveiled. Positioned as a high-stakes continuation, Dhurandhar 2 aims to expand the franchise’s espionage universe. However, it will face competition at the box office from Yash’s pan-India film, Toxic.
