Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh starrer Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani released on 28th July, 2023. RARKPK turned out to be a massive hit. While Alia played the role of Rani Chatterjee (a Bengali journalist), Ranveer essayed the role of Rocky Randhawa (a flamboyant businessman) in the film. Now, in a recent interview, Karan Johar has revealed that Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani was ‘maybe subconsciously’ inspired by Akshay and Twinkle.

Speaking with Mid-Day, Karan revealed, “Maybe subconsciously (I got inspired). They have a tremendous friendship in their marriage. I’ve had dinners with them, meals with them, hung out with them. And there’s a terrific kind of comfort in their camaraderie. He finds her hilarious, she finds him hilarious, for different reasons.”

KJo added, “So, I felt it wasn’t impossible for people who come from two different demographics of society, two stratas, to actually find love. It’s like we put ourselves in boxes. Like when we’re finding a relationship, we put ourselves in places where we’re comfortable. But tomorrow, you can fall in love with someone anywhere.”

It is well-known that Karan shares a close bond with Twinkle. For the uninitiated, Karan went to the same boarding school in childhood as Twinkle.

On the other hand, Akshay and Twinkle are one of the most loved couples in Bollywood. They dated for a few years before tying the knot in 2001. They have two kids – Aarav and Nitara.
