The script of the much-awaited sequel to Akshay Kumar-starrer ‘Rowdy Rathore’ is finally in the making. The news was confirmed by Baahubali and RRR writer KV Vijayendra Prasad, in his latest interview. The film is reportedly all set to go on floors at the end of 2022.

The writer in an interview with Mid Day stated that Sonakshi Sinha will reprise her role of Paro in the sequel. “While the principal characters of Shiva and Paro are expected to remain in the sequel, the story will not pick up where Rowdy Rathore ended. This will be a completely new narrative. The script will be ready in the next few months, and the movie is expected to go on floors in the end of 2022.”

Akshay Kumar will also essay the role of Shiva from the first installment. Further, KV Vijayendra Prasad said that he has been working on the script for the past few months. “I am currently writing the Rowdy Rathore 2 script. Bhansali saab [Sanjay Leela Bhansali] approached me to write the sequel. I should be able to complete the script soon.”

In 2019, co-producer Shabinaa Khan had also confirmed ‘Rowdy Rathore 2’ is in the making.

Meanwhile, ‘Rowdy Rathore’ was directed by Prabhu Deva and produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. The story is about Vikram Rathore, a heroic police officer, who dies at the hands of corrupt politicians. But his team replaces him with Shiva, a thief who occurs to be his look-alike, in an attempt to catch the criminals.

The film is a remake of the 2006 Telugu blockbuster Vikramarkudu directed by S. S. Rajamouli, based on an original story written by K. V. Vijayendra Prasad. In 2012, it was one of the highest-grossing Indian films and the film was also declared a blockbuster at the box office.
