Actor Sanjay Dutt recently found himself in the headlines owing to a comment he made while on Shekhar Suman’s chat show Shekhar Tonite. During his appearance, the ‘Munnabhai MBBS’ actor wished for a greater sense of peace in India, while adding that he ‘can’t feel’ that peace in our country anymore. This comment soon went viral and sparked social media backlash.

Now, the actor took to his social media handles and issued a clarification on the statement. In the note, he stated that he had no intention to hurt or disrespect anyone. Sanjay Dutt Clarifies His ‘Can’t Feel Peace In India’ Statement

Late last night, Sanjay Dutt took to X (formerly Twitter) and shared a note in both Hindi and English clarifying his comment. He began his note by writing, “I would like to clarify that it was never my intention to hurt, offend, or disrespect the sentiments of any individual, community, or institution. My remarks were made in the context of a scripted conversation intended to be light-hearted and humorous.”

His tweet further read, “The spirit behind them was similar to the humour and satire seen in films like Munna Bhai, particularly the concept of “Gandhigiri,” which was intended to convey a message of love, warmth, togetherness, and goodwill. Unfortunately, my words were interpreted outside of that intended context”

Sanjay Dutt appeared on Shekhar Tonite for a special Gandhi Jayanti episode. During the episode, Baba spoke wished for a greater sense of peace in the country. He said, “The people of this country are so lovely. There should be peace here. I can’t feel that peace in our country anymore. We Indians are large-hearted people and we are hospitable. We have given so much, and we should always remain that way. I pray to Shivji that those days come back soon.”

Aside from this statement, the episode also saw Sanjay Dutt delivere a satirical monologue using Munna Bhai’s familiar vocabulary as part of his speech if he was made the Prime Minister of India. In the speech, he joked about foreign travel, tariffs and lots more.
